Game 7: Hurricanes Improve to 4-2-1

The Hurricanes were victorious Saturday night against the Randolph Oilers with a 36-18 victory. The Hurricanes Traveled to Randolph and came ready to play. The Defense stepped up huge getting 5 Interceptions while the offense just moved the ball all day.

The scoring started on an opening drive when Dutchie Arroyo took a sweep off tackle and plunged in for a Touchdown. The Defense was then able to get the ball back with Safety J.V. Hunter picked off the Oilers Quarterback Eli Marrero.

The ensuing drive, the Hurricanes scored another touchdown to go up 14-0 when Quarterback Eric Hamlin throw a short pass to Marqueem Monroe and Monroe scampered in for a 20 yard TD.

With just under 2 minutes left in the half, the Hurricanes pinned the Oilers deep. As they were working out of their end zone, Defensive Lineman Pat Zadrozny pressured Marrero into throwing another interception. Hurricanes Taylor Frye was there to get the ball back to the Hurricanes. As time was winding down in the Half. Hamlin hit Monroe again for a 2 yard TD making the score 21-0 going into the half.

The Oilers got the ball to start the second half, as they were driving down the field, Marrero threw his third interception to Hurricanes Cornerback Jose Santos who then had an amazing return before being tackled at the 24 yard line.

Just 2 plays after the interception, Running Back Chris McNally spun himself into the touchdown for his first of the day and put the Hurricanes up 29-0.

The Oilers found a little bit of life as they were marching the ball back down the field on the ensuing drive. Marrero, after being pressured most of the night, was able to roll out of the pocket, set up and threw a deep ball. As the ball started coming down, Taylor Frye jumped up and snagged it out of the air for his second interception of the night.

The Hurricanes couldn’t capitalize on that turnover and had a penalty plagued drive that forced them to punt. The Oilers started to get something going when Marrero found James Suber in the back of the end zone with 8 minutes left to play and cut the league down to 29-8.

The Hurricanes answered with a 93 yard drive that had a couple of big plays by Running back Roscoe Dozier with a 24 yard run and Wide Receiver Alex Young with a 40 yard pass before Hamlin hit Wide Receiver Deven Frye for a short 1 yard Touchdown Pass to put the Canes up 36-8.

With 3 minutes left, the Oilers didn’t give up. They moved the ball downfield and capped off the final score of the game when Eli Marrero scrambled for a 35 yard touchdown.

With the win, the Hurricanes improve to 4-2-1 and they will face division rival the Granite State Destroyers for the number 2 seed and a chance to host the East Coast Football League Semi Finals game. The Destroyers are coming in at 5-1-1 in what will be the ECFL game of the week. The Destroyers and Hurricanes always have great games as 2 of the longest running programs in their Division.
